Current Legislative Initiatives - United States House of Representatives

ARMENPAC supports the following legislative initiatives currently pending in the United States House of Representatives:

Condemning the assassination of human rights advocate and outspoken defender of freedom of the press, Turkish-Armenian journalist Hrant Dink on January 19, 2007 (H.Res.102).

Representative Joseph Crowley (D-NY) introduced H.Res.102, which condemns the assassination of Hrant Dink and urges the government of Turkey to: (1) continue its investigation and prosecution of those individuals responsible for Hrant Dink's murder; and (2) protect freedom of speech in Turkey by repealing Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code and by opposing intolerance, intimidation, and violence against individuals who are exercising their right of freedom of speech.


Affirmation of the United States Record on the Armenian Genocide Resolution (H.Res.106).

Representatives Adam Schiff (D-CA) George Radanovich (R-CA), Armenian Caucus Co-Chairs Joe Knollenberg (R-MI) and Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ), Brad Sherman (D-CA) and Thaddeus McCotter (R-MI) introduced H.Res.106, which calls upon the President: 1.) to ensure that United States foreign policy reflects appropriate understanding and sensitivity concerning issues related to human rights, ethnic cleansing, and genocide documented in the United States record relating to the Armenian Genocide and the consequences of the failure to realize a just resolution; and 2.) in the President’s annual message commemorating the Armenian Genocide to characterize the systematic and deliberate annihilation of 1.5 million Armenians as genocide, and to recall the proud history of United States intervention in opposition to the Armenian Genocide.

Current Legislative Initiatives - United States Senate

ARMENPAC supports the following legislative initiative currently pending in the United States Senate:

A resolution condemning the murder of Turkish-Armenian journalist and human rights advocate Hrant Dink and urging the people of Turkey to honor his legacy of tolerance (S.Res.65).

Senator Joseph R. Biden (D-DE) introduced S.Res.65, which 1.) condemns the murder of Hrant Dink; 2.) supports the government of Turkey's pledge to investigate Mr. Dink's assassination and prosecute those responsible; 3.) urges the government of Turkey to repeal Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code and work to foster a more open intellectual environment that is conducive to the free exchange of ideas; 4.) recognizes the government of Turkey's decision to invite Armenian religious and political figures to participate in memorial services for Mr. Dink; 5.) calls on the government of Turkey to reestablish full diplomatic, political, and economic relations with the government of Armenia; and, 6.) urges the people of Turkey to honor Mr. Dink’s legacy of tolerance.

Senator Richard Durbin (D-IL) introduced S.Res.106, which calls upon the President to ensure that the foreign policy of the United States reflects appropriate understanding and sensitivity concerning issues related to human rights, ethnic cleansing, and genocide documented in the United States record relating to the Armenian Genocide
